Cantonment, FL – 1 Injured Reported in Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 95A

Cantonment, FL (September 12, 2025) – One person was injured in a crash on Thursday, September 11, near Jim Allen Elementary School on Highway 95A. The accident occurred just off Highway 29 when a pickup truck and a Chevrolet SUV collided.

After the collision, the pickup lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road. The pickup crashed into a tree and utility pole at the Cottage Hill Assembly of God Cemetery, snapping the utility pole in the process.

Escambia County EMS transported the driver of the pickup to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of the driver's injuries remains unclear, but emergency responders quickly acted to ensure the victim received proper care.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, but no additional details about the crash have been released as of now. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision and whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the accident.

We wish the injured driver a full and speedy recovery.

Auto Accidents in Northwest Florida

Auto accidents in the Florida Panhandle can lead to severe injuries, even if they happen in familiar places near schools or residential areas.

While each accident is unique, there are several common reasons why auto accidents occur in our region. Understanding these causes can help raise awareness and prevent future incidents.

  • Distracted Driving: One of the most common causes of car accidents, distracted driving includes activities like texting, talking on the phone, eating, or adjusting in-car systems. A driver who isn't paying full attention to the road is more likely to make a mistake, such as failing to notice a stop sign or failing to yield at an intersection.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed is a dangerous behavior that leads to a higher risk of accidents. Driving too fast reduces the time available to react to road hazards, making it difficult to avoid a crash. Speeding is especially risky in areas with lots of traffic, like around schools or intersections, where drivers must stay alert to other vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly impairs a driver's ability to respond to road conditions and make split-second decisions. Impaired driving remains a serious problem in Florida and is a leading cause of auto accidents.
  • Weather Conditions: Florida’s unpredictable weather can make driving hazardous, especially during the rainy season. Slick roads due to rain or fog can cause vehicles to lose traction and increase the risk of a crash. Drivers need to adjust their speed and driving behavior based on the weather conditions.
  • Fatigue: Driving while tired can be as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. Drivers who are fatigued may have slower reaction times, lack focus, and experience difficulty staying alert while driving, all of which can lead to accidents.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Poor vehicle maintenance can also contribute to accidents. For example, worn-out tires, malfunctioning brakes, or broken lights can affect a driver’s ability to safely operate their vehicle. Regular maintenance checks are important for ensuring that a vehicle is roadworthy.
