DeFuniak Spgs., FL - DUI ATV Crash on July 4 Injures Pregnant Passenger
DeFuniak Springs, FL (July 7, 2025) – A serious ATV crash on the night of July 4 has left a pregnant passenger injured and resulted in the arrest of the driver for DUI. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department responded after an ATV driven by 24-year-old Corey Browan Jr. attempted to pass another vehicle illegally.
Investigators say that during the failed maneuver, the ATV struck the vehicle it was trying to pass before crashing into a parked vehicle along the roadway. The impact caused the pregnant passenger riding the ATV to be ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Browan was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces charges including DUI with serious bodily injury and driving while license suspended. The DeFuniak Springs Police Department continues to urge all residents to make responsible choices, especially during holiday celebrations.
We hope the injured passenger experiences a full and swift recovery.
Car Accidents in Florida
Throughout Florida, DUI-related crashes remain one of the most common causes of serious injuries and fatalities on roadways. The Florida Highway Patrol reminds all drivers that operating any vehicle, including ATVs, while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not only illegal but can have life-changing consequences for everyone involved. Holiday weekends in particular often see an increase in impaired driving incidents.
Understanding the dangers of impaired driving and how to avoid them can help keep our roads safer. Here are a few points to keep in mind:
- Illegal Passing Maneuvers: Attempting to pass another vehicle illegally or recklessly can lead to serious crashes. Always wait for clear passing zones and never attempt to overtake when visibility or space is limited.
- Driving with a Suspended License: Operating a vehicle without a valid license increases risks on the road. Drivers whose licenses are suspended often have prior violations, and ignoring a suspension can add serious legal consequences.
- Ejection from Vehicles: Riding unrestrained on vehicles like ATVs puts passengers at greater risk of being thrown from the vehicle during a crash. Safety gear and responsible driving are critical to help reduce these injuries.
- Impaired Judgment: Alcohol and drugs impair coordination and reaction time, making safe driving nearly impossible. Plan ahead with a designated driver or rideshare if you intend to drink.
If you or a loved one has been hurt in a crash involving an impaired driver, speak with a DeFuniak Springs car accident attorney as soon as possible. An experienced lawyer can help you pursue compensation for medical care and other damages.
