Wakulla Co., FL - Four Injured in Crash at Coastal Hwy Intersection
Wakulla County, FL (August 4, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle crash on Saturday night in Wakulla County that left two people with serious injuries and two others with minor wounds.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 7:45 p.m. on August 2 at the intersection of Spring Creek Highway and Coastal Highway. A northbound SUV was approaching the intersection from Spring Creek Highway as a pickup truck traveled westbound along Coastal Highway.
FHP investigators say the SUV’s driver failed to spot the oncoming pickup and entered the intersection. The pickup truck collided with the passenger side bumper of the SUV, causing both vehicles to spin before coming to rest near the intersection.
First responders arrived shortly after the impact and rendered aid to all occupants. The driver and passenger in the SUV sustained minor injuries, while the two people in the pickup truck suffered more serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities worked the scene for an extended period to investigate the crash and clear the roadway. At this time, FHP has not released the identities of those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
We hope everyone involved in this accident makes a full and quick recovery.
Intersection Crashes in Florida
In Florida, intersection crashes make up a large share of the state’s total traffic-related injuries. Many of these collisions happen when drivers misjudge gaps in traffic or fail to yield when required. According to state data, over 30% of serious injury crashes occur at or near intersections, making them one of the most dangerous driving scenarios.
As crash victims and their families begin recovery, several hurdles often emerge:
- Complicated Insurance Claims: Intersections often involve disputes about right-of-way, making insurance companies more likely to deny or delay claims until fault is firmly established.
- Vehicle Damage: Spinning vehicles often collide with additional objects or lanes, leading to significant structural damage and higher repair or replacement costs.
- Unseen Injuries: Internal injuries like whiplash, concussions, or organ damage may not be immediately obvious. Medical evaluation is crucial even if symptoms seem minor.
- Increased Risk at Night: This wreck occurred in the evening—an especially dangerous time for driving. Limited visibility and fatigue can both contribute to these kinds of crashes.
- Passenger Vulnerability: Side-impact crashes, especially on the passenger side, increase the likelihood of injury for passengers who have less structural protection in most vehicles.
