Midway, FL - Trooper Injured in Crash on Blue Star Hwy

Midway, FL (August 12, 2025) – Monday morning’s rush hour turned dangerous in Gadsden County when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured during a wreck while attempting to stop a speeding vehicle. The crash happened on August 11, just before 7 a.m., at the intersection of Blue Star Highway and Commerce Boulevard near the Baymont Hotel.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the trooper was following a speeder when a small commercial truck attempted to make a left turn and struck the patrol car. The impact caused significant damage to the cruiser, which quickly began to catch fire. Two women who witnessed the crash rushed to the scene, pulling the injured trooper from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

FHP reported that the trooper suffered a broken foot and underwent surgery later that afternoon at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. The driver of the truck sustained only minor injuries. Both eastbound and westbound traffic in the area experienced significant delays as roadblocks were set up and traffic was diverted. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.

We hope the injured trooper makes a full and speedy recovery.

Car Accidents in Florida

In Florida, motor vehicle crashes involving law enforcement vehicles can be particularly dangerous due to the high speeds and unpredictable conditions often involved in police pursuits. Statistics show that Florida sees thousands of collisions each year that result in serious injuries to both officers and civilians. Below are common factors that can lead to severe injury crashes:

  • Left-Turn Collisions: When drivers fail to yield while turning left, especially in front of oncoming traffic, the resulting impact can cause serious injuries. These collisions often happen at intersections and may involve higher speeds.
  • Speeding Vehicles: Excessive speed reduces reaction time, making it harder for drivers to avoid hazards. It also increases crash force, leading to more severe injuries and property damage.
  • Intersection Accidents: Intersections are common locations for collisions due to the mix of turning, crossing, and merging traffic. Misjudging another driver’s speed or ignoring traffic signals often results in wrecks.
  • Emergency Vehicle Involvement: Police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks responding to calls often travel at higher speeds. When other drivers fail to yield, it increases the risk of high-impact crashes.
  • Distracted Driving: Taking eyes off the road for even a moment can lead to collisions, especially in fast-moving or unpredictable traffic situations.
