Car Crash Scene

Escambia County, FL (August 20, 2025) – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured early Sunday morning, August 17, after a crash involving a black SUV on U.S. Highway 29.

The collision occurred around 6:20 a.m. just south of West Roberts Road. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the trooper was already on scene investigating a separate crash when the SUV failed to move over from the left lane. The SUV struck the rear of the patrol vehicle, causing significant damage.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported both the trooper and the SUV driver to a local hospital. Officials confirmed that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

Authorities identified the driver of the SUV as Deondrez Dequan White. He was later arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail.

The crash caused delays in the area while investigators examined the scene. FHP has not released additional details but confirmed the case remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured trooper and driver, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.

Auto Accidents in the Florida Panhandle

Auto accidents in the Florida Panhandle remain a constant concern, especially on busy highways like U.S. 29. Drivers share the road with patrol units, emergency crews, and stalled vehicles daily. When motorists fail to move over or slow down, they place lives at risk.

Florida’s Move Over Law requires drivers to shift lanes or reduce speed when approaching stopped emergency vehicles. Despite this law, many crashes still occur, putting law enforcement officers and first responders in harm’s way. Collisions like the one in Escambia County show how quickly a routine response can turn dangerous.

Victims of auto accidents often face physical injuries, medical bills, time away from work, and emotional distress. In cases involving reckless or negligent drivers, victims may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical treatment and rehabilitation

  • Lost income and reduced earning potential

  • Pain, suffering, and emotional trauma

  • Vehicle damage or replacement costs

When accidents involve repeat offenders, as in this case, legal action can also hold dangerous drivers accountable. An experienced car accident attorney can gather evidence, navigate complex insurance issues, and ensure that victims receive fair treatment.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an auto accident in Northwest Florida, we encourage you to seek legal advice as soon as possible.
