Freeport, FL – Chain-Reaction Crash Involving School Bus Causes Injuries on US-331
Freeport, FL (January 15, 2026) – A chain-reaction crash occurred on US-331 near the intersection of Jolly Bay Road on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, involving three vehicles, including a school bus. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the school bus had stopped to unload passengers when a vehicle crashed into the truck behind it, triggering a collision with a third vehicle.
At the time of the crash, 14 children were aboard the school bus. Emergency responders transported the occupants of the second and third vehicles to the hospital, including a child from one of the other vehicles. Fortunately, the child taken from the bus was confirmed to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Walton County School District.
All other students aboard the bus were safely taken home. The crash has prompted an investigation by the FHP, and law enforcement is continuing to assess the situation. At this time, authorities have not determined the exact cause of the crash but are looking into the details.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) was on the scene, assisting with traffic control and gathering information for the investigation. The incident remains under investigation.
We wish everyone injured in this collision a full and steady recovery.
How Do I Get a Copy of the Police Report After an Accident in Northwest Florida?
If you’ve been involved in a car accident in Northwest Florida, obtaining a copy of the police report is a crucial step in understanding the details of the incident and pursuing any potential insurance claims or legal actions. The police report can provide an official record of the crash, including the time, location, parties involved, and any citations issued.
In Florida, police reports can typically be obtained from the law enforcement agency that responded to the accident. If the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the crash, as in the case involving the school bus in Freeport, you would request the report from the FHP. If local law enforcement, such as the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), responded, you would contact them directly for a copy of the report.
To request the report, you will generally need to provide some information, such as the accident report number (which can be obtained from the responding officer), the date and location of the accident, and your personal details. Many law enforcement agencies allow you to request police reports online, but you can also do so in person or by mail. Some agencies may charge a small fee for the report.
It’s important to note that police reports may take some time to be processed and made available. In some cases, especially if the investigation is still ongoing, the report may not be immediately accessible.
However, once the report is ready, it can serve as a critical document for your insurance company, lawyer, or any other parties involved in the aftermath of the accident. In these cases, a personal injury lawyer can assist victims in the process and ensure that all necessary steps are taken.
