Motorcycle accidents in Pensacola and across Florida often lead to severe and painful injuries because riders have less protection than drivers in enclosed vehicles. Even with helmets and protective gear, a collision can cause lasting damage that requires extensive treatment.
Some of the most common injuries from motorcycle accidents include:
- Broken bones: Fractures in legs, arms, and ribs are common when a rider is thrown from their bike. Recovery can take months and may involve surgery. In some cases, victims may need physical therapy to regain full mobility.
- Head injuries: Even with a helmet, riders may suffer concussions or traumatic brain injuries that affect memory, balance, and concentration. Severe head trauma can also impact speech and emotional regulation long after the crash.
- Road rash: When skin scrapes against pavement, painful abrasions can develop, sometimes requiring skin grafts or long-term wound care. These injuries also carry a high risk of infection if not treated properly.
- Spinal injuries: Damage to the spine may result in long-term pain, nerve damage, or in severe cases, paralysis. Victims with spinal trauma often face major lifestyle changes and long-term medical expenses.
- Internal injuries: Collisions can cause internal bleeding or organ damage, which may not be obvious right away but can be life-threatening if untreated. Prompt medical attention is critical, as hidden injuries can quickly worsen.
