Lafayette Co., FL – 2 Teens Killed, Several Injured in Patrol Car Crash on US 27
Lafayette County, FL (September 22, 2025) – A devastating crash on Friday afternoon, September 19, claimed the lives of two teenagers and left several others injured, including a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident happened around 4:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27, just north of County Road 537. Authorities said a sedan traveling north on U.S. 27 carried two adults in the front seats and five minors in the back, ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old.
For reasons still under investigation, the sedan lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, where it collided with a patrol car. The patrol vehicle struck the side of the sedan with significant force.
The impact caused the right front passenger and four of the minors to be ejected from the car. A 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the driver of the sedan to HCA Florida Live Oak Hospital. Other passengers were transported to UF Health for treatment.
Tragically, a 13-year-old girl later died at UF Health from her injuries. The condition of the deputy and the other injured victims has not yet been released.
Troopers continue to investigate the crash and the events that led to this heartbreaking loss of life.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the families affected by this tragedy.
Fatal Auto Accidents in the Florida Panhandle
Crashes involving young lives are among the most devastating events families can face. In the Florida Panhandle, auto accidents remain a major concern, often leading to serious injuries or tragic fatalities. Highways like U.S. 27 see heavy traffic, and even a single moment of loss of control can result in life-altering consequences.
When an accident results in the death of a loved one, families may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims allow surviving relatives to seek compensation for:
- Medical expenses from the crash
- Funeral and burial costs
- Lost income and benefits
- Pain and suffering, as well as loss of companionship
In these situations, the guidance of a compassionate wrongful death attorney can make a significant difference. A lawyer helps families navigate complex legal procedures, gather evidence, and build a strong case for justice. With professional support, grieving families can focus on healing while knowing their rights are protected.
Wrongful death cases also serve another important purpose: they hold negligent parties accountable and push for safer roads across our communities. Families often find comfort in knowing their legal action can help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
