Davisville, FL – Fatal Collision Between Dump Truck and SUV on Hwy 97
Davisville, FL (September 12, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a man on Friday, September 12, on Highway 97, just south of Meadows Road. The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when a fully loaded dump truck collided with an SUV.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the SUV crossed the center line into the path of the dump truck. Despite the truck driver’s attempt to avoid the collision, the vehicles crashed, causing the dump truck to overturn and spill an estimated 20 tons of small gravel across the roadway.
The SUV driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was airlifted by AirCare 2 helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, but further details have not been released. The investigation and cleanup efforts are expected to keep the roadway closed for several hours between Nokomis Road and Meadows Road.
Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, and we extend our deepest sympathies. We also hope for the swift recovery of the dump truck driver.
Truck Accidents in the Florida Panhandle

Truck accidents, particularly involving large vehicles like dump trucks, can lead to devastating consequences, as seen in this tragic crash.
With their heavy loads and large size, commercial trucks are inherently dangerous, especially in high-speed collisions or situations where drivers have little time to react.
While accidents like this one are rare, it’s important to understand the factors that can contribute to such incidents and the steps you can take if involved in a truck-related accident.
- Driver Fatigue: Truck drivers often work long hours, and fatigue can severely impair their reaction time, decision-making, and ability to stay alert behind the wheel. Drowsy driving is a serious concern in the trucking industry and can lead to devastating accidents.
- Distracted Driving: Like all drivers, truck drivers can become distracted. Whether it’s texting, talking on the phone, or navigating a GPS system, distractions can take attention away from the road and lead to accidents.
- Speeding: Trucks require more time and distance to stop compared to smaller vehicles. Speeding reduces the ability of truck drivers to react to road hazards and increases the severity of crashes when they occur.
- Poor Vehicle Maintenance: Given the size and complexity of trucks, regular maintenance is crucial. Issues with tires, brakes, or other vital components can cause accidents, particularly when drivers are unable to control their vehicle in emergency situations.
- Road Conditions: Poor weather or road conditions, such as rain or ice, can make it more difficult for truck drivers to maintain control of their vehicle. Trucks with heavy loads can be harder to stop or maneuver, making them more prone to accidents under adverse conditions.
