Escambia County, FL (December 12, 2025) – A deadly truck crash claimed the life of a Pensacola man and left a woman critically injured Thursday afternoon, December 11, in Escambia County. The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer along a busy stretch of U.S. Highway 98.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Aileron Avenue. Troopers said a Toyota Corolla attempted to turn left from Aileron Avenue onto U.S. 98. During the turn, the driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

A loaded tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on U.S. 98 struck the Corolla on the driver’s side. Investigators reported that the truck driver attempted to brake and avoid the collision but could not stop in time. The force of the impact pushed both vehicles approximately one block east, where they came to rest near Erin Drive.

The driver of the Corolla, a forty-one-year-old man from Pensacola, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. A female passenger in the Corolla sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews airlifted her to a nearby trauma center for urgent treatment. Officials have not released her age or current condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a thirty-three-year-old man from Macon, Georgia, did not suffer injuries. Florida Highway Patrol closed U.S. 98 between Aileron Drive and Skylark Drive for more than three hours while traffic homicide investigators examined the scene and gathered evidence.

Troopers continue investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.
