Bay County, FL – 1 Dead in Motorcycle Accident on Thomas Dr
Bay County, FL (August 25, 2025) – A tragic crash early Sunday morning, August 24, on County Road 392, also known as Thomas Drive, claimed the life of a 64-year-old motorcyclist and left a 28-year-old woman critically injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the collision occurred just before 1:30 a.m. when 26-year-old Alexander Morrison of Lynn Haven was driving an SUV westbound in the inside lane of Thomas Drive.
A motorcycle, operated by a 64-year-old man from Panama City Beach, was also traveling west ahead of the SUV. Morrison failed to slow down or change lanes, causing the front of the SUV to strike the rear of the motorcycle.
The impact of the crash caused the motorcycle to overturn, throwing both the driver and his passenger. The motorcyclist was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The passenger of the motorcycle, a 28-year-old woman from Fort Walton Beach, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay for treatment.
Following the collision, the SUV continued westbound before stopping at the intersection of County Road 30B. Authorities from the Panama City Beach Department quickly located the vehicle and detained Morrison until FHP arrived. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
Morrison was arrested and charged with DUI Manslaughter, DUI Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene Resulting in Death, and Leaving the Scene Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased motorcyclist, and we wish the injured passenger a full and speedy recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in the Florida Panhandle
Motorcycle accidents in Bay County, like the tragic incident on Thomas Drive, highlight the risks that motorcyclists face every time they hit the road. These accidents can be particularly devastating, as motorcycles offer little protection compared to other vehicles, making crashes often more severe. In this case, the motorcyclist lost his life, while the passenger suffered critical injuries.
Motorcycle accidents in Florida are frequently caused by a variety of factors, including:
Distracted driving – Drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or otherwise not paying attention to the road can fail to notice motorcyclists, leading to dangerous collisions.
Speeding – Speeding reduces the ability to react in time to avoid an accident and increases the severity of a crash.
Driving under the influence – Alcohol or drugs impair a driver’s judgment and reaction times, making it more likely they’ll cause a fatal accident.
Failure to yield – Drivers who fail to yield the right of way or don’t check blind spots when changing lanes often cause motorcycle accidents.
Road conditions – Poorly maintained roads, potholes, and debris can pose a significant danger to motorcyclists, especially in high-speed situations.
