Car Accidents in Florida

Motor vehicle accidents in Florida are a daily concern, with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reporting over 390,000 crashes annually. These incidents often result in significant physical and emotional harm to those involved. Whether in urban or rural areas, accidents involving motorcycles, cars, and commercial vehicles remain a leading cause of injury across the state. Florida continues to work on public safety measures, yet the roads can still be unpredictable and dangerous.

When someone is impacted by a vehicle crash, it can lead to serious injuries and life changes. Below are some of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents in Florida:

  • Left-Turn Accidents: Many motorcycle accidents occur when other drivers make left-hand turns in front of approaching motorcycles. The smaller profile of a motorcycle makes it harder to spot, especially when the other vehicle is attempting to turn quickly through traffic.
  • Lane Splitting or Passing at Inappropriate Times: Although lane splitting is not legal in Florida, some riders take risks by trying to pass vehicles during turns or slowdowns. These maneuvers often increase the risk of side impacts or being clipped by larger vehicles.
  • Poor Visibility and Road Conditions: Fog, rain, and poorly lit areas can make it harder for drivers to see motorcyclists. In addition, uneven pavement, potholes, and oil spills are more hazardous to motorcycles than cars.
  • Driver Inattention or Distraction: Distracted driving remains one of the top contributors to accidents. When drivers are on their phones or not focused, they may fail to notice a motorcycle nearby, leading to severe collisions.
  • Speeding and Reckless Driving: Higher speeds reduce reaction times. Motorcyclists and vehicle drivers alike who speed increase their chance of being involved in a serious crash due to reduced control and longer stopping distances.
