Attorney Clayton Syfrett Volunteers for Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventure Fishing Trip
Last month our very own Attorney Clayton Syfrett volunteered for Jeep Sullivan’s Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventure by taking out a number of wounded veterans on a day fishing trip. Jason Maxwell, an army veteran, was among the servicemen who got the chance go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2013, Maxell was declared medically retired, meaning he was too injured to continue serving, after 17 years of service. During the trip, he and several other veterans bonded while discussing mutual experiences and catching red snapper.
Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventure, a ministry based in Bonifay that takes veterans and combat-wounded military personnel on outdoor trips, has been hosting these day fishing trips for several years now. They facilitate the healing of spirit, soul, and body through outdoor activities at no cost to these veterans.
“It was awesome — a bunch of great guys. I got a lot of Vietnam veteran friends that didn’t get that support. The one thing about Jeep’s organization is he doesn’t just cater to one timeline. He opens it all. We all get to share stories and know what one another felt,” said Maxwell.
Larry Butler, an Army veteran from Dothan, Alabama, said the trip was wonderful. He was a pilot instructor and had to stop flying due to knee and back problems.
“I really appreciate them donating their time and everything to us. It gives us an opportunity to get out, rather than sitting around,” Butler said. “Some veterans have physical disabilities. There’s also mental issues involved, and it helps.”
